BULGARIA OBSERVED | culture, society and politics

Your observer

Only recently I have been observing Bulgaria closely. I was born and raised in the Netherland and I have been observing Spain for over more than ten years.

Time for a – geographically – different point of view!

In this blog, I will write about Bulgaria beyond the foreign headlines that limit their scope to fraudulent political practices and immigrant cultures in Western Europe.

Who is this latest member of the European Union that we know so little about? My aim is to observe Bulgaria with anthropological eyes, writing about a variety of topics, ranging from art to society and politics, sociolinguistics, and, daily life. All of these will be united however, by my general interest in memory: the impact of the past on Bulgaria’s present.
